OpenLineage is the lineage standard that emerged as the de facto interchange protocol over 2022–2026, with first-party emitters in Apache Airflow, dbt, Spark, and Flink. Native consumers (Marquez, Atlan, DataHub) ingest these events directly without lossy translation; non-conformant tools either parse query logs and miss runtime context, or use proprietary metadata APIs and create lock-in.
